“In this remarkable body of work, two things stand out: depth of exploration and sensitivity to subject. Merrill invested time to become acquainted with who and what he photographed, using his camera to broaden rather than narrow his view. The resulting photographs reveal a respect for process and a quietly focused attention that invites us to linger and look.”
